In a significant development, there are reports that ICC chairman and former BCCI secretary Jay Shah has played a major role in Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) declining PCB to host their remainder of PSL matches in UAE. Notably, amid the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan, the PCB decided to move the league out of Pakistan and thought of Dubai as an option.
Notably, the plan to shift the league to Dubai didn't work out as ECB declined their request. In the latest events, Cricinfo reported that the cordial relation between Jay Shah and ECB played a big role in the suspension of PSL. "When soldiers are dying at the border, we cannot keep quiet," a cricket official said.
"We owe it to the BCCI and Jay Bhai," an ECB official told Cricbuzz, acknowledging the Indian role in the matter.
IPL Too Suspended For A Week
Not just PSL, but IPL too has been suspended because of the ongoing conflict. Notably, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings locked horns at the Dharamsala Stadium, but the match was called-off mid-way because of escalating tensions.
Further, the IPL governing body held a meeting where the decision was taken to suspend the league for a week. Meanwhile, the players were safely transported to Delhi via train on the next day. At present there is no clarity over the resumption of the tournament, as overseas players are now looking to leave country as soon as possible.
Notably, the latest update is that the BCCI has shortlisted three cities - Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad to conduct the remainder of the league, but no decision has been finalised .
