Manjrekar Points Out 'Flaw' in Rohit's Captaincy, Brings Jadeja to Discussion

Apart from the toss that landed in India's favour on Day 1 of the Indore Test, the encounter against Australia was a bitter pill to swallow for Rohit Sharma and company.

Bundled out for 109 and 163, the Indian batting unit came under heavy criticism for their inability to play quality spin, as seen against the guile of Nathan Lyon, who rocked the hosts in the second innings with a terrific eight-wicket haul on Day 2 yesterday.

Former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar has now come down heavy on Indian skipper Sharma, pinpointing flaws in his captaincy in the third Test, which according to him is 'senseless'.

India opted to promote Ravindra Jadeja over Shreyas Iyer in both innings, which did not yield great results, as the former batter could manage on 7 and 4.

Iyer displayed attacking cricket on Day 2, scoring 26 off 27, to hand India a lead to defend.

Speaking to Star Sports, the former Mumbai batter said that Iyer is a class player of spin and could not be dropped down the order.

Here's what Manjrekar said

"It has just disappointed me in the last and this innings as well that Jadeja came ahead of Shreyas Iyer. You can't be doing that for a left-right combination. You've got a proper batter...even if he is a right-hander.

"Jadeja coming in as a left-hander...I can understand when you have 2-3 left-arm spinners like Bangladesh used to have in the past. Here you have two quality off-spinners bowling. It did not make any sense to me."

Talking about the Test, Australia needing 76 to win the match, lost just one wicket in their chase as Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne notched up a comfortable win for the visitors in the first hour of Day 3.
