Kemar Roach hasn't achieved the heights which was expected of him, but the West Indian pacer etched name in history books on Thursday, when he became the fifth highest wicket-taker for West Indies in Tests.

He achieved this feat against South Africa on the third day of the first Test match against South Africa.

With the wicket of Anrich Nortje, Roach surpassed the record of the great Joel Garner, and moved into the list of the highest wicket-takers in Tests for the Windies.

Roach has 260 Test wickets in 76 matches, while Garner had 259 wickets in 58 Test matches. Moreover, it was his 11th fifth wicket haul in the longest format, and first five-wicket haul away from home since 2017.

List of highest wicket-takers for Windies

  • Courtney Walsh (519)
  • Curtly Ambrose (405)
  • Malcolm Marshall (376)
  • Lance Gibbs (309)
  • Kemar Roach (260)

Talking about the Test match, South Africa had a healthy lead going into the second innings, but they faltered against a spirited Windies bowling attack, led by Roach. The Temba Bavuma led side were bundled out for a paltry 116.

West Indies need 247 to clinch the win, but the batting disappointed once again as the visitors are tottering at 131 for the loss of 7 wickets.
