Five-time Big Bash League (BBL) champions, Perth Scorchers have emphasized the significance of local talent in their successful blueprint, as they secure the services of seamer Matt Kelly with a three-year contract extension until at least 2026.

Kelly, who was instrumental in the Scorchers' triumph in the recent BBL 12 campaign, was a key figure in the final, recording figures of 2-37, edging out leg-spinner Peter Hatzoglou for the last spot in the playing XI.

Kelly's exceptional form in the BBL over the past two seasons, boasting 25 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 7.73 from 14 matches, has placed him among the all-time leading wicket-takers for the Scorchers with 52 dismissals. However, he has often been the first player to be omitted from the playing XI upon the return of international stars.

"Over the last few years, everyone has been in and out a few times and Peter and I have done that numerous times," Kelly told cricket.com.au after the Final.

"It's so unique sport … there's always going to be sacrifices that have to be made but that's how you have success. Just to be a part of the Final was incredible. Obviously, missing last year was disappointing but we've got such a strong team that you know sometimes you're going to miss games,” the 28-year old pacer concluded.

It is worth mentioning that Scorchers have constructed much of their success in the competition over the past 12 editions on the backbone of their domestic talent pool. This was perfectly demonstrated during their nail-biting four-wicket victory over the Brisbane Heat in the BBL final, as 19-year-old Cooper Connolly and Nick Hobson stepped up to steer the team home with four balls to spare.
