Sarfaraz Khan is not just smashing doors, he is burning them: Ravi Ashwin

The debate over Sarfaraz Khan's snub from the Indian Test squad has been running in circles for some time now. The Mumbai batter has been one of the best domestic batters going around at the moment, averaging 70.21 in Ranji Trophy - and 123.3 in the last three seasons - which is just second best to Sir Donald Bradman in First Class Cricket. 

Despite showing such consistency, the 25-year-old was overlooked when India's squad for the first Test matches against Australia was named. Instead, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav were picked over the consistent bloke. 

Standing in Sarfaraz's support, Indian Test regular - Ravichandran Ashwin has spoken and questioned the selecting procedure.

Here's what Ashwin said:

"Where do I begin about this batsman? Sarfaraz Khan. There is so much debate on whether he should get selected or not. But he is not caring about selection, guys, Ashwin said on his Youtube channel.

 In the 2019-20 season, he scored 900 runs. In the 2020-21 season, another 900 runs. This season, he has scored almost 600 runs. He has made a strong statement with his sheer performances," he added.

"He is averaging in excess of 100 in the last three seasons at a high strike-rate as well. Sarfaraz Khan is not just smashing on the selection doors. He is burning them. But unfortunately, he is not getting selected currently. Despite not getting selected, he played a terrific knock for Mumbai against Delhi, the game in which Mumbai lost," Ashwin further said.

The BCCI has stated no official reason for not picking Sarfaraz, but there have been a few speculations about his fitness in the media. However, he has been passing the Yo-Yo test and playing four-day games for Mumbai regularly.

In this Ranji edition, the right-hander has amassed 556 runs from 6 matches, averaging 92.66 this season with three hundreds in his kitty.

Meanwhile, Mumbai have failed to qualify for the Quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy 2022-23, after playing a draw against Maharashtra in Round 7.
