A total of four teams locked horns on Monday, January 23rd in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Let's take a quick review of the action transpired.

Match 21: Rangpur Riders vs Chattogram Challengers

Result: Rangpur Riders won by 55 runs.

After being asked to bat first, Rangpur Riders had a slow start as they could only manage 62 runs in the first ten overs. However, the duo of Malik and Omarzai changed gears and stitched a game changing 105-runs partnership for the fourth wicket. Omarzai got out for 42 off 24 but Malik continued the onslaught and went on to score an unbeaten 75 off 45. The Riders posted a formidable 179 runs for six in twenty overs.

In reply, the Challengers started poorly, losing three wickets early in the innings and could only manage 46 on the board at the end of the powerplay. Skipper Shuvagata Hom changed his gears after the powerplay, followed by Ziaur Rahman, at six and kept their side alive in the chase. However, Rangpur bowlers held their nerve, picking wickets at regular intervals and bowled the Challengers out for just 124 inside seventeen overs.

Match 22: Comilla Victorians vs Dhaka Dominators

Result: Comilla Victorians won by 60 runs.

After being asked to bat first, Victorians’ openers could not get them off to a flying start as Mohammad Rizwan lost his wicket early and Litton Das could only manage to score a run a ball twenty. However, Imrul Kayes and Johnson Charles kept the scoreboard ticking but Dhaka bowlers did not allow them to stay long. It was another Khushdil Shah’s late fireworks, alongside young Jaker Ali which helped Comilla Victorians to go past 160.

Chasing 165, Dhaka Dominators could not get going at any point of their innings as their batting continued to let them down and fell by another huge 60-run margin. Naseem Shah, on debut, completely broke the back of their batting and finished with four wickets in four overs. This is Dhaka’s sixth consecutive defeat in the tournament and no surprises they are currently placed at the bottom of the table. Comilla Victorians, on the other hand, climbed up the ladder to third in the league standings.
