In a major development, former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that swashbuckling keeper-batter Rishabh Pant won't be available for the IPL 2023.

Ganguly, who is close to being formally appointed as director of cricket for the Delhi Capitals, admitted to the team missing Pant in the lucrative league.

However, the former Indian captain also expected the Capitals to have an outstanding season despite Pant's unavailability.

Here's what Ganguly stated

"Rishabh Pant will not be available for the IPL. I am in connection with Delhi Capitals. It will be a great IPL (for the team), we will do well but Rishabh Pant’s injury will affect the Delhi Capitals."

Pant was doubtful for the IPL after sustaining a life-threatening car accident on New year's eve.

The Delhi batter is currently admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital, where he has undergone ligament surgery.

Pant's absence will be a massive blow to the Capitals, who are yet to add a trophy to their cabinet.

Furthermore, it will be interesting to see who captains the side and what kind of playing combination they perform in Pant's absence.
