MCA confirms RR, RCB stadium talks for IPL 2026 [Source: AFP Photo]
IPL has ten teams, but not all of them will get a chance to play their home matches at their usual grounds. There are two IPL franchises who are reportedly linked with the Maharashtra Cricket Association as their new home venue for the IPL 2026 season. Interestingly, both sides have different reasons to switch from their actual home venue.
RCB won the IPL title last season after an 18-year drought, and a day later, the team hosted a victory celebration at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, but the event turned into a nightmare as a stampede situation occurred and at-least 11 people died. As a result, the stadium might not get the clearance certificate on time to host IPL matches.
RR has a different reason to move away from the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, as the Rajasthan Cricket Association, last year, accused the team of match-fixing, an allegation that the franchise denied, and hence, they want to move away from the stadium. There are also reports that the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Pune) might host IPL games for either of the two sides.
MCA breaks silence on hosting IPL matches for RR, RCB
With just a few months left for the IPL 2026 campaign, and no permanent venue allotted to the two IPL franchises, Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has broken its silence on the matter, and has stated that officials from both sides came to visit the stadium, and they will be happy if some of the matches are played at their venue.
While no official confirmation has come from either RCB or RR, there is a strong possibility that one of the two sides will make MCA their new home stadium.
RR, or RCB, which team will enjoy playing at MCA Stadium, Pune?
MCA Pune is a batting-friendly ground and has already hosted 51 IPL matches. The average IPL score batting at this venue is 162, and this makes it a stadium where batters will enjoy toying with the bowlers.
In terms of batting, RCB slightly have an advantage as not only the team has an excellent top order, but the defending champions perhaps have the most destructive middle-order in the league. The same cannot be said about RR, who heavily rely on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi at the top. Hence, the venue could be a great choice for RCB, but not for RR.
