BCB has decided not to send Bangladesh to India for the T20 World Cup 2026, as announced via a Facebook post. According to the adviser of the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Bangladesh fear a security threat, thus triggering strong reactions from Indian fans.

The decision follows the controversial release of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the KKR squad for IPL 2026, which was done on instructions from the BCCI.

Mustafizur, who became the most expensive Bangladeshi player in IPL history after being bought for ₹9.20 crore, was released amid rising political tensions between India and Bangladesh.

The move triggered strong reactions in Bangladesh, with officials questioning the safety of their players if a contracted cricketer could not be allowed to play in India.

After an emergency meeting, the BCB decided that the national team would not travel to India for the T20 World Cup matches. Dr Asif Nazrul, Bangladesh's Adviser to the Ministry of Youth & Sports, confirmed this in a Facebook post.

However, Bangladesh is not withdrawing from the tournament. Instead, the board plans to request the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, fans on social media have mocked Bangladesh for their unprofessional stand. They called them out for throwing tantrums using bogus cards of security threats, when in reality, their own country is in turmoil.

"security concern nhi dar gye hai bacche😂😂" - @To_kaleshi

"If Bangladesh chooses not to play the World Cup, the loss will be theirs. Their player has been excluded from the IPL, not banned from playing in India. And at the very least, Bangladesh should not be talking about security concerns." - @cricmith

"They think they're calling the shots! If India doesn't participate in an ICC event, that tournament won't get views or money. Nobody gives a shit about Bangladesh. Play or don't play." - @salRoid

"Its high time India shows their power ...just pull out from one ICC event and let other teams see the outcome . No one will ask for hybrid model again." - @ITalkWisely

"*Bangladesh will not travel to India legally" - @VeinAcode

Notably, Asif Nazrul openly supported the decision and expressed concern for player safety. He said that if a Bangladeshi player is not considered safe enough to play in the IPL, the entire national team cannot feel secure travelling to India.

Nazrul also directed the BCB to submit a detailed explanation to the ICC and formally request a venue change. Bangladesh are scheduled to play their group matches at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, starting February 7.

The matches include fixtures against West Indies, Italy, England, and Nepal.
