Matt Renshaw is set to make a comeback into Australia’s Test setup after nearly five years. The cricketer was included in Australia’s squad for the upcoming third and final Test against South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Renshaw, who played his last Test match against the same opponents back in April 2018, has now thanked senior batter Usman Khawaja for lending him support in tough times.

Matt Renshaw describes Khawaja as his life coach

Renshaw has thanked “life coach” Usman Khawaja for helping him get a Test recall. The 26-year-old was called to the national Test side, alongside all-rounder Ashton Agar, as injury replacements for Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green.

On Khawaja, the youngster was quoted as saying:

“He's someone I'm quite close to. I call him my life coach. He hasn't accepted the role, but unfortunately for him, it's not a role that you can accept – it's just given to you. He knows me quite well, he knows when I'm up or down, and knows when I need to be checked in line as well.”

Since his Test debut in 2016, Renshaw has played 11 matches for Australia, minting 636 runs at an average of 33.47. He has a ton and three half-centuries to his name.

The third match between Australia and South Africa is set to commence at the SCG on January 4.
