Nathan Lyon surpasses R Ashwin to become 8th highest wicket-taker in Test cricket

Australia's ace spinner Nathan Lyon surpassed Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to become the 8th highest wicket-taker in Test cricket on Day 5 of the first Test against West Indies in Perth on Sunday, December 4. 

Lyon now has 444 scalps to his name in the longest format of the game, which takes him past Ashwin's tally of 442 Test wickets. The Australian off-spinner picked the wicket of Kyle Mayers to become the eighth-highest wicket-taker in Test history.

Also, Lyon is the fourth highest-wicket spinner in Test cricket after Muttiah Muralitharan (800 Wickets), Shane Warne (708 wickets), and legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble (619 Wickets). 

Lyon's back-to-back wickets in the morning session helped Australia get a tight hold on the Perth Test against West Indies. 

Overall, he picked a sensational four-wicket haul in the second innings, dismissing the big man Kraigg Brathwaite (110), Shamrah Brooks (11), Jermaine Blackwood (24), and Kyle Mayers (10). 

As long as the match is concerned, Australia is now just 2 wickets away from a thumping victory while West Indies need 178 runs (at the time of writing) to script a historic victory in the Perth.
