BPL under scanner over corruption suspicion [Source: @BCBtigers/X.com]
The BCB has confirmed that its integrity unit had reasons to believe a suspicion of an unfair practice was found in the ongoing BPL 2025-26 season. As a result, players have been questioned and mobile phones have been seized from franchise officials.
While no one has been found guilty so far, the situation has created unease among teams.
The issue has also affected foreign players, with Afghanistan star Rahmanullah Gurbaz reportedly feeling mentally disturbed by the intense scrutiny.
BCB integrity unit steps in after fixing suspicion
The BCB’s integrity unit carried out routine checks after identifying what it called “credible suspicion” of corruption during the tournament. In an official statement, the board said several foreign players were spoken to privately as part of standard procedures.
These meetings were held to verify recruitment processes, contracts, and payment structures. The BCB made it clear that no player is under investigation at the moment.
It also stressed that no one has been found guilty. According to the board, these actions are preventive and confidential in nature. They are meant to protect the game and do not point to any wrongdoing by players or teams.
The situation became public after Dhaka Capitals’ chief executive Atik Fahad accused integrity officials of barging into Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s hotel room in Sylhet.
Fahad said such actions can mentally affect players and even force franchises to reconsider their future in the league.
Noakhali Express also confirmed questioning in BPL
Atik Fahad said his franchise already suffers financial losses each season and that added pressure from off-field issues makes it harder to operate. He warned that continued treatment like this could make it impossible for them to continue in the BPL.
Noakhali Express also confirmed that their players and officials were questioned. The franchise said they protested against the conduct of integrity officials.
Despite these complaints, the BCB stood firm in its support of the integrity unit. The board said these steps are part of its zero-tolerance policy against corruption. Such measures have helped reduce suspicious activities by nearly 80 per cent in recent years.
The BCB insisted that no player’s rights were violated and that all actions were taken under ICC anti-corruption guidelines.
Gurbaz, distressed, considered leaving the tournament
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who is playing for Dhaka Capitals, has been at the centre of the storm. Reports suggest that he was so upset by the situation that he even thought about leaving Bangladesh midway through the tournament.
Dhaka captain Mohammad Mithun confirmed that off-field matters have affected the team. He said Gurbaz has been mentally disturbed and that it has impacted the squad.
The captain added that the team has tried to support Gurbaz emotionally. However, he admitted that how a player deals with such pressure depends on the individual.
Mithun further revealed there were reports about Gurbaz pulling out of the tournament, but the matter was eventually sorted out.
As the BPL continues, all eyes will be on how the situation develops and whether it affects player participation in the future.
