The T20 World Cup 2026 tournament is just three weeks away, but there is no clarity on the potential venues for Bangladeshc’s group stage matches. A stand-off continues between the ICC and the BCB over the latter’s demand to move their World Cup games out of India. However, a fresh report has emerged that has exposed Bangladesh’s false narratives.

As per the independent agency that conducted the security measures in India for the World Cup, the assessment has found no credible threat to the Bangladesh team if they come to India.

ICC statement exposed BCB's false narratives

"It is important to clarify that the ICC's independent risk assessments, carried out by internationally recognised security experts do not conclude that Bangladesh cannot play its scheduled matches in India," a highly-placed source conversant with the development, told Cricbuzz.

"The overall security risk for the tournament in India has been assessed as low to moderate, which is consistent with the profile of many major global sporting events," the statement added.

ICC is aware of BCB’s plans as the board wants their games to move out of India, but according to an ICC source, there is no evidence of a direct threat towards the Bangladesh players in Kolkata and Mumbai.

ICC approaches TNCA, KCSA for hosting Bangladesh games

Earlier, Cricbuzz reported that ICC had approached the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), for hosting Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches next month. BCB is adamant on shifting their matches to Sri Lanka, but the ICC reportedly explored an alternative as Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram are being explored.

The report added that both the state cricket boards are willing to host the Bangladesh games, but the BCB is unwilling to sway away form their stance as the board doesn’t want its players to travel to India, citing security reasons.

Bangladesh's current schedule for T20 World Cup

As per the current World Cup schedule, Bangladesh is set to start its campaign against the West Indies on February 7, followed by a clash against Italy on February 9. England is their next opponent on February 14, and they end the group stage by colliding against Nepal on February 17.

However, with BCB adamant, their games could either be played in the Southern part of India, or could entirely be shifted to Sri Lanka.
