The Sun Group, owners of IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad and SA20 side Sunrisers Eastern Cape, earlier acquired The Hundred’s Northern Superchargers franchise for approximately £100 million in July 2025.
Following the complete takeover, the franchise was rebranded as Sunrisers Leeds in November 2025, as the Sun Group secured a 100 percent stake in the team.
In a recent post on their official social media handles, Sunrisers Leeds released a new video showcasing the brand new logo that incorporates the trademark Sun Group design.

The video posted by the franchise marked the transition from Northern Superchargers to Sunrisers Leeds and was captioned, “A new sun rises with the same fire. Orange army of Headingley, welcome your team, Sunrisers Leeds.”

The video also showed their home ground at Headingley while panning around the state to introduce ‘Orange Army’ to the culture of Leeds.
How the Sun Group acquired Northern Superchargers?
The acquisition of Northern Superchargers was carried out by Sun TV Network Limited for £100.5 million, with the stakes purchased from both the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Yorkshire County Cricket Club, giving the Indian media house complete ownership and control.
Yorkshire reportedly received close to £40 million from the deal, which was used to clear existing debts and step away from its role as a stakeholder.
In February 2025, the Sun Group emerged as the highest bidder during the auction process to purchase the franchise. The sale was officially completed in July after receiving approval from the Sun TV Network board of directors for the full acquisition.
By early November 2025, the franchise was formally renamed Sunrisers Leeds to align with the global Sunrisers brand. The move reflects the Sun Group’s growing cricket footprint across Asia, Africa, and Europe, with Northern Superchargers now operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of the India-based media conglomerate.
New transition, new change for Sunrisers Leeds
Northern Superchargers, led by England prodigy Harry Brook in the 2025 edition of The Hundred, are yet to win a title in the competition. They came close in 2025 by reaching the Eliminator but fell short against Trent Rockets and failed to progress to the final.
Looking ahead, Sunrisers Leeds, who previously wore a purple-themed kit, are expected to don the trademark orange and black colours of the Sunrisers’ Orange Army in the 2026 edition of the tournament.
