Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed may no longer take part in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2025–26 due to a possible injury concern. Taskin Ahmed missed Dhaka Capitals’ most recent match against Noakhali Express, as confirmed by the team captain.
The match, which was scheduled for Sunday at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, saw Taskin absent from the playing XI. Skipper Mohammad Mithun later revealed in the post-match press conference that the fast bowler was experiencing knee-related issues.
Dhaka Capitals skipper confirms Taskin Ahmed injury
After the clash, Dhaka Capitals team captain Mohammad Mithun confirmed the injury concern of Taskin Ahmed.
“It’s [Taskin’s absence] the physio’s concern. He is not in a position to play. He needs a break and has gone to Dhaka for a scan. He wasn't available for this game. As far as I know unofficially, he has a chance to play from the Dhaka phase if the injury isn’t bad,” Mithun said.
The right-arm seamer, who has taken only three wickets in five BPL matches this season, travelled to Dhaka for medical scans as a precautionary measure.
Physio assures speedy recovery
Bangladesh Cricket Board physio Bayjedul Islam Bayezid downplayed the severity and said that the injury is not serious and he will be fit to play soon.
“It’s not that serious. It’s not that big of an issue. We had worked on this [knee injury] for 2.5 years during 2014, 2015, and 2016. He has been sent to Dhaka to go through a check up on that and to sort out the issue,” Bayezid told The Daily Star.
Will Taskin Ahmed be able to play T20 World Cup 2026?
What remains a concern is that the T20 World Cup 2026 begins on February 7, which is only three weeks away. If Taskin Ahmed’s injury is deemed a serious issue ahead of the upcoming ICC tournament, Bangladesh could be forced to miss his services for the campaign.
With no clear timeline yet set for his recovery and medical scans still awaited by both the BPL committee and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the situation remains uncertain, and hopes are high that he can return in time.
Taskin Ahmed has featured in five BPL matches this season and has picked up only three wickets at an expensive economy rate of 9.78. His only notable performance came against Northend Express on January 7, where he claimed one wicket while conceding 28 runs in his four-over spell.
