The WPL 2026 season in Navi Mumbai will likely be impacted by the upcoming municipal corporation elections. As per reports, a couple of matches are set to be played behind closed doors at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The report stated that the Navi Mumbai police has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that they will not be able to provide adequate security at the time of the WPL fixtures coinciding with the municipal elections in the city.

WPL 2026 matches to be played without spectators in election week

As per ESPNCricinfo, the police have informed the BCCI that they will not be able to provide adequate security for WPL 2026 match on election day, i.e., January 15. Moreover, the matches to be played on January 14 and January 16 might also be impacted owing to the elections.

As of now, the official online ticket platform of the WPL has not listed ticket sales for all three matches to be played on January 14, 15 and 16. However, the tickets have been already sold out for the cracking double-header on January 17, for UP Warriorz vs Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals vs RCB Women matches at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

If BCCI imposes a ban on spectators and enforces a closed-doors policy on all three games between and during the elections, the matches set to be impacted are: UP Warriorz vs Delhi Capitals (January 14), Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz (January 15) and RCB vs Gujarat Giants (January 16).

WPL 2026 so far

The WPL 2026 season started off with an opening spectacle in Navi Mumbai on January 9 with a match between defending champions Mumbai Indians and 2024 winners RCB last weekend.

As of January 12, the Gujarat Giants Women’s team is placed at the top of the WPL 2026 points table with thrilling wins in each of their two games. Mumbai Indians and RCB have both won a game each to be ranked second and third on the standings, while UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals are yet to notch up a single point.

The Navi Mumbai leg of the WPL 2026 season will conclude with the January 17 double-header before the action shifts to Vadodara.
