Kieron Pollard calls time on his illustrious IPL career

In a significant development, veteran West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League. The former West Indies captain took to his Twitter handle to reveal his decision, which he termed as a tough one considering his attachment with the lucrative league as a player for 12 years. 

Pollard, who served the Mumbai Indians with the utmost success, expressed his gratitude for the franchise while calling time on his illustrious career. 


Notably, Pollard debuted against Delhi Capitals in the 2010 edition of the tournament. In 189 IPL matches, the swashbuckling Trinidadian has amassed 3412 runs at an average of 28.67 and a blistering strike rate of 147.32. 

He was an integral part of Mumbai's all title-winning teams in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. He is particularly known for his exploits against MI's arch-rivals, the Chennai Super Kings. In 23 innings against MS Dhoni-led CSK, Pollard has slammed 583 runs at a healthy average of 36.44 and an unbelievable strike rate of 171.98 (his personal best against any opponent). 

However, Pollard had a massive slump in form last season, managing only 144 runs across eleven innings. Additionally, as MI have finishers in Tim David and Tristan Stubbs, they were likely to release the 35-year-old to the mini-auction scheduled next month. As it seems, MI's move has influenced the legendary all-rounder to bid adieu to the IPL.
