Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa has revealed that India's World Cup debacle will open the door for younger players to step up and break into the squad.

A host of senior players are expected to make way after the humiliating semi final defeat to England. Players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami could all relinquish their roles in the shortest format of the game.

Hardik Pandya is expected to to lead Team India in the T20Is going forward. The jury is still out on KL Rahul who has been abysmal throughout the World Cup and certainly does not deserve a place in the side on merit.

Uthappa has revealed to the ICC that players like Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi should get an opportunity in the side now. He added that young bowlers like Umran Malik deserve to get a look in as well.

There are certainly a number of gaps to fill in India's T20I squad and the management will have to be brave with their decision and weed out the chaff from the unit.

"There’s certainly room for youngsters now. There are a few gaps to fill in T20 cricket as far as finishers are concerned and they may have to look to the future in that sense.

"I’d love to see Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi in this side. They are both very exciting, very good young players. On the bowling side, I’d like to see Umran Malik and Deepak Hooda get an opportunity."
