Mustafizur Rahman’s sudden exit from the IPL has created widespread debate, with the Bangladesh pacer finding himself at the centre of a rare cross-border controversy. The left-armer was released despite being picked for a hefty Rs 9.20 crore by KKR.
The situation intensified rapidly, prompting responses from Bangladesh cricket authorities and player welfare bodies. While legal action seemed likely, it has now emerged that Mustafizur rejected going against the BCCI legally, choosing a calmer and more personal approach.
Legal options against BCCI discussed after Mustafizur’s IPL removal
After Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the KKR’s IPL squad following a directive from the BCCI, the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) stepped in to examine possible legal options as reported by bdcrictime. The focus was on safeguarding the fast bowler’s professional and financial interests.
CWAB held discussions at senior levels and also consulted the World Cricketers’ Association to understand what can be done in this regard. The global players’ body indicated that legal advisors from their international network could be involved if required.
While it was understood that the decision itself could not be reversed, there was confidence that some kind of compensation was still possible to get. These discussions were kept open, awaiting Mustafizur’s final call on whether to proceed legally.
Mustafizur declines legal route despite CWAB support
However, the process eventually did not go ahead after Mustafizur Rahman conveyed his personal decision to CWAB President Mohammad Nithun to step away from going through any legal process. He expressed a preference to let the matter rest for now, keeping future options open if circumstances changed.
Respecting the player’s wishes, CWAB chose not to pursue the case further. The association made it clear that its role was to support the player, not to push him into a course of action he was uncomfortable with.
The episode has had more drama, with Bangladesh cricket authorities citing security concerns while deciding against touring India for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Still, the core of the story remains Mustafizur's choice to avoid confrontation and move forward quietly.
