India's loss to England in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 have opened up Pandora's box. Team selections, planning, and strategies have suddenly come under extreme scrutiny.

One such selection is picking Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel over Yuzvendra Chahal in the World Cup. Chahal, who is India's leading T20 leg-spinner, did not manage to play a single game. While other teams opted for wrist spinners in the XI, the Indian management continued to feature two-finger spinners on their side, which did not fare well.

Both combined to pick nine wickets between them.

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh like many others was left baffled by Chahal's non-selection and raised his doubts. According to IndiaToday, Singh felt that Chahal's exclusion did not make sense.

In 2022, Chahal played 19 T20Is and managed 21 wickets at an average of 22.61.

“I don't know what are the reasons that a champion bowler (Yuzvendra Chahal) is not in the team. He must have done something to someone that he is not getting a game. With his credentials he should have been your first choice spinner,"

Several former players like Nikkhil Chopra, Farokh Engineer, and Irfan Pathan have echoed similar opinions as well.
