Keaton Jennings talks about England Test recall

Keaton Jennings has had a terrific County Championship season. In 11 matches, the southpaw scored 1233 runs, at an astonishing average of 72.53. 

The 30-year-old played his last of the 17 Tests in 2019, but has been recalled back in the England side on the back of a stellar domestic season.

He was dropped for the tour of West Indies in 2019 and was recalled for the series in Sri Lanka in 2020, only for the pandemic to cancel the tour.

Now after his comeback in the national side, Jennings talks about his mindset ever since he was dropped from the England Test side.

"I don't think there was ever a time when I thought my career was over. I did mentally get to a  place where I was content not playing another Test. I played good cricket and enjoyed it," Jennings told BBC.

Jennings made a hundred on debut against India in 2016, but struggled to replicate the same form in the series against South Africa.

The southpaw also talks about his failure as a batter post his debut series.

"As a player you feel the pressure and intensity of international cricket. My debut went nicely and there was an extended period until the next Test and I hadn't had a great start to the season. Little doubts creep in when you face the likes of Rabada, Philander and Morkel on some spicy pitches," he added.

With Alex Lees out of the side, Jennings will fight it out with Ben Duckett to partner Zak Crawley for that second opening spot.
