South Africa pummeled hosts Zimbabwe in Bulawayo to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. Young Indian batters Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan continue to excel in County Championship 2025 season. In other news, the CSK franchise has expressed a keen interest in acquiring Sanju Samson for IPL 2026.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Tuesday, July 1.

Corbin Bosch-Inspired SA Trounce ZIM On Day 4

South Africa annihilated Zimbabwe by 328 runs in the first Test at Bulawayo to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Resuming the innings at 32-1 on Day 4 in a tall chase of 537, Zimbabwe folded up for just 208 in 66.2 overs courtesy of a five-wicket haul from Corbin Bosch. Notably, Bosch also shattered numerous all-rounder records by picking up a five-fer and by scoring a century in the same match, fittingly bagging the bragging rights for the ‘Player of the Match’ in the process.

Debutant Codi Yusuf also picked up three wickets in the innings. For Zimbabwe, Wellington Masakadza scored the lone half-century through his fighting 57.

Tilak Varma Scores Another Fifty For Hampshire

Tilak Varma registered his second successive fifty-plus score of the 2025 County Championship Division One season for Hampshire. Batting at number four, the Indian left-hander scored 56 runs from 171 balls with seven fours and a six against Worcestershire at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

Varma had also notched up a scintillating 100 on his County debut for Hampshire late last month as he continues to audition himself for a potential Team India Test call-up in the ongoing England series.

Ishan Kishan Bludgeons Attacking 77 For Nottinghamshire

Much like Tilak Varma, fellow Indian batting star Ishan Kishan also tonked his second successive fifty-plus score to sustain his purple patch this 2025 County Championship Division One season, albeit for the Nottinghamshire cricket club. The blistering left-hander bludgeoned 77 runs from 128 balls with eight fours and a couple of huge sixes against Somerset at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton.

Apart from Kishan, opener Ben Slater and number five Jack Haynes pounded huge hundreds as Nottinghamshire mounted a huge first-innings lead over Somerset.

CSK Express Interest In Rajasthan Royals Zealot Sanju Samson

The CSK franchise has officially expressed its interest in acquiring Rajasthan Royals captain and seasoned wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson ahead of IPL 2026 next year. While speaking with Cricbuzz, a CSK official said that the franchise is willing to trade in Samson, if the cricketer makes himself available.

A report, however, has indicated that the CSK and Rajasthan Royals franchises are yet to hold a formal talk with each other over the fate of the Indian stumper.

India Tour Of BAN Uncertain, Says BCB Chief

Team India’s upcoming ODI and T20I tour of Bangladesh is still uncertain, as per Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam. As quoted by Cricbuzz, Aminul revealed that the BCB is having “positive discussions” with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The cricket administrator also added that the BCCI is still awaiting clearance from the Government of India before finalizing on the Bangladesh tour.

While Team India is scheduled to face Bangladesh in three ODIs and three T20Is between August 17 and August 31, the tour overall may be put on hold owing to the prevailing political crisis in Bangladesh.
