Indian pace bowler Umran Malik, famously referred to as the Jammu Express due to his rare speed, is set for a comeback following injury keeping him off the IPL 2025 season. Malik has restarted training and should soon be bowling.
Umran, picked up for INR 75 lakh by KKR at the mega auction, was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Chetan Sakariya replaced him, but the Jammu talent stayed behind in the KKR camp for his rehab.
Umran Malik Gets Back In Action After Recovery
In IPL 2022, Umran Malik made a buzz by regularly clocking speeds over 150 kmph and earned an India call-up soon after. He was keen to use IPL 2025 as a springboard for an international comeback, especially after a quiet 2024 season.
However, an injury forced him onto the sidelines. Regardless, after a swift recovery, the pacer is looking to get back into action. In a recent clip shared on his Instagram story, Umran Malik was seen training. He went to an athletic ground and did warm-up stretches, followed by a quick run.

Malik is yet to resume bowling, but the early signs appear good. The domestic season will resume in October with the Ranji Trophy. Hence, the speedster has enough time on deck to recover and regain his original groove.
What Went Wrong With Umran?
Once hailed as India’s next pace superstar, Umran Malik’s fall from the spotlight has been as swift as his bowling spells. Following his IPL 2022 debut, he produced raw pace, regularly bowling at over 150 kph and reaching 156 kph when bowling against Sri Lanka in 2023. He took 22 wickets in his maiden IPL season and 24 wickets in his first 18 matches for India.
But the graph of the pace sensation has plunged since mid-2023. He has not played for India after July 2023, performed poorly in IPL 2024 with just 5 wickets from 8 games, and played in only a single match in IPL 2025 before being ruled out due to injury. Illnesses also forced him to miss the Buchi Babu Tournament and the Duleep Trophy.
Injuries also restricted his development to a large extent. But still, Umran Malik is young. At 25, he still has the time to prioritise his health and return stronger.
