The much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 is likely to be held from September 5 to September 21, according to a recent report. Despite growing tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir, the tournament is expected to go ahead as planned, with all matches to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Political Tensions Almost Derailed The Tournament

There were serious doubts about this year’s Asia Cup taking place, especially after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor, a military response targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Given the heightened tensions, the idea of India and Pakistan facing off on the cricket field seemed highly unlikely. However, with both countries expected to play in a neutral venue and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) retaining hosting rights, the match seems back on the cards.

India vs Pakistan on September 7

As per TimesofIndia.com, India and Pakistan are set to face each other on September 7, just two days after the tournament begins. The tournament will follow the T20 format, with six teams, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and the UAE, participating.

A group stage will be followed by a Super Four round, and finally the title clash on September 21.

If both India and Pakistan make it to the Super Four stage, they are expected to face off again on September 14 (Sunday). The final match of the tournament is likely to take place on September 21 (Sunday).

While the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has yet to confirm the schedule officially, preparations are still underway, with all participating nations currently seeking approvals from their respective governments.

Despite this development, the bilateral series between India and Pakistan is still unlikely anytime soon. The two countries are expected to face each other only in multinational tournaments, like the Asia Cup or ICC events.
