Babar Azam starred in Pakistan’s emphatic 10-wicket win over England last week. The cricketer clubbed an undefeated 110 and formed a 200-plus stand with Mohammad Rizwan.

Babar has now reached 2,948 runs in his T20I career and is set to join Martin Guptill, Paul Stirling and Indian batting icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in an elite record.

Babar Azam 52 away from scaling 3,000 T20I runs

Babar Azam has piled up 2,948 runs from 80 T20I innings at a healthy average of 42.72. He is currently the fifth highest run-getter in the format and the highest from his country.

If the 27-year-old adds another 52 runs to his tally, he will become the fifth cricketer to complete 3,000 T20I runs.

The list is led by Indian captain Rohit Sharma (3,694 runs) and followed by Virat Kohli (3,663 runs), Martin Guptill (3,497 runs) and Ireland’s Paul Stirling (3,011 runs).

Moreover, if Azam scores the 52 he needs against England in the sixth match itself, he will join Kohli to become the joint-fastest batsman in history to achieve the landmark.

The cricketer’s batting form has been an area of concern for Pakistan, especially this late before the T20 World Cup. He listed just 68 runs across six innings of the recently-concluded 2022 Asia Cup.
