Guyana Amazon Warriors secured a 12-run victory over the Jamaica Tallawahs in Match 25 of the Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday (September 21) at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
Hope, Smith propel Warriors to a strong total
Invited to bat first, the Warriors lost their openers Chandrapaul Hemraj and Rahmanullah Gurbaz early, courtesy of Chris Green's proficient spin bowling. Then, Imad Wasim sent Shakib Al Hasan back to the hut for a golden duck.
The composed innings of Shai Hope (60 off 45) and a blistering knock from Odean Smith (42 off 16) sailed the Warriors to a strong score. The late blitz of Keemo Paul (24*) further helped the team to post 178 on the board.
Mohammad Nabi emerged as the key wicket-taker with three scalps, followed by Green with two dismissals.
Tallawahs fall short, despite Brandon King's century
In response to the chase, openers Kennar Lewis (13) again failed to live up to the expectations. Then, the dismissals of Rovman Powell and Raymon Reifer certainly put Tallawahs under the pump.
Amid a flurry of wickets at other end, Brandon King was at his absolute best to steer the team at a lavish rate. Without support from other batters, King slammed 104 off 66 balls, laced with eight fours and seven maximum.
King's unfortunate run-out in the last over resulted in Tallawahs losing the game by 12 runs. The trio of Imran Tahir, Odean Smith and Gudakesh Motie picked two wickets each.
