Mohammad Rizwan surpasses Virat Kohli, equals Babar Azam in unique T20I feat

Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan is chasing skipper Babar Azam run-by-run in T20I cricket. Rizwan achieved a milestone during his knock of 68 runs in the first T20I against England at Karachi on Tuesday.

Rizwan has drawn level with Azam's record of quickest to 2,000 T20I runs, which came in 52 innings, bettering the likes of Virat Kohli (56), KL Rahul (58), and Aaron Finch (62).  Azam recorded his record in April 2021 against Zimbabwe.

Rise in T20I cricket

Ranked number 1 in ICC T20I Rankings for Men, Rizwan (375) is the leading run-scorer in  20-overs format this calendar year for Pakistan, ahead of Azam (165). 

Overall, the wicket-keeper batter has amassed 2,011 runs from 63 T20Is for Men in Green at an impressive average of 51.56, including one century and 17 half-centuries.

The Peshawar-born also holds the record for scoring the most number of T20I runs in a single calendar year (1,326), miles ahead of second-best Babar Azam (936), Paul Stirling (748), and Kevin O'Brien (729).
