Josh Hazlewood wants a regular white-ball player to succeed Aaron Finch as captain

Australia's T20I skipper Aaron Finch recently retired from ODI cricket, following a massive slump in his batting form. As Finch was captaining the ODI team, Cricket Australia is now searching for his successor to pass the leadership baton. 

While experienced players like David Warner and Glenn Maxwell are the front-runners in the race, some experts have also voiced in favour of Test skipper Pat Cummins to lead in all three formats. 

Amidst all these discussions, veteran Australia speedster Josh Hazlewood has shared his thoughts on the matter. 

At the launch of Australia's T20 World Cup kit, Hazlewood opined that it wouldn't be an ideal call to burden any of the fast bowlers with white-ball captaincy, as they would rest during most of the bilateral limited-overs series to manage their workload. 

Therefore, the 31-year-old wanted Cricket Australia to appoint a regular limited-overs player as Finch's successor going forward. 

"With the quicks we are probably going to rest here and there so it's not like Patty with the Tests playing every game, hopefully barring injury, [we will] probably use those moments in white-ball to rest," 

"That could create a reshuffle of captaincy and vice-captain all the time so you probably want someone there who is stable and playing every game, makes it a lot easier I think."

Having said this, Hazlewood maintained that it would be easy for the new captain to facilitate the transition as the players have a plethora of experience and share great bonds among themselves. 

The upcoming T20 World Cup at home will likely be Finch's final hurrah in the shortest format. So, keeping his probable T20I retirement in mind, Cricket Australia must finalise its captaincy candidates in time.
