Smriti Mandhana may skip WBBL to prioritize international cricket

India's stalwart Smriti Mandhana is thinking of pulling out of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2022 season to manage her workload and be 100% fit for international cricket. 

The eighth edition of the WBBL is slated to be played in October-November, with Mandhana being a part of Sydney Thunder. 

It has been a busy year for the opening batter which kickstarted from the Women's ODI World Cup in February-March. Soon, she played domestic tournaments and the Women's T20 Challenge as well. 

Afterwards, the 26-year-old played a key role for India in the Sri Lanka tour and the Commonwealth Games. Mandhana top-scored for the Southern Brave, who emerged as a runner-up in the Women's Hundred. 

Currently, the southpaw is a part of the Indian team on their white-ball assignment against England which commenced on September 10. 

Mandhana reckoned the decision to skip WBBL 

"I think more than the mental part, it's about managing a little bit of physical part," said Mandhana. 

"Definitely I'll be thinking about pulling out of WBBL because I don't want to miss out on playing for India or having any niggles when I play for India because I want to give my 100% when I play international cricket. So definitely I'll be thinking about playing or pulling out of Big Bash."

Although, Mandhana is grateful for the opportunities since Women's cricket always strived for a jam packed schedule, similar to their male counterparts.
