The Duleep Trophy 2022 witnessed a tough contest between four teams to stake their claim for the semi-finals. Here's a sneak peek into what transpired on Friday at Chennai and Puducherry. 


West Zone vs North East Zone

Under the presence of able batters like Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal, West Zone started Day 2 on 116/0 in Chennai. The duo continued their well-built momentum into the second Day as well to steer the team at a brisk rate. 

It was the off-spinner Ankur Malik, who managed to dismiss Shaw (113) and provided a much-needed breakthrough for East Zone. However, the seasoned campaigner Ajinkya Rahane and Jaiswal toiled the bowlers hard. Although Rahane started cautiously, he cut loose after setting his eyes on the pitch. 

Jaiswal slammed 228 off 321 balls, with 22 fours and three sixes, and added a mammoth stand of 333 runs with Rahane.  

At the end of Day 2's play, West Zone are at 590/2, with Rahane unbeaten on 207 and Rahul Tripathi at 25*.

North Zone vs East Zone

East Zone started their Day's proceedings on 179/3 with Manoj Tiwary and Virat Singh at the crease. The charismatic batters provided a stable start to the team in the first hour. However, Nishant Sindhu dismissed Tiwary (27) at the brink of the lunch break. 

Virat was up to his task to keep the team in good stead and smashing his seventh first-class century. The talented all-rounder Pulkit Narang soon made the southpaw holed out to Navdeep Saini for a well-compiled 117. 

Afterwards, the late blitz of Shahbaz Ahmed (62) and Manisankar Murasingh (32) propelled East Zone to a score of 397. Saini and Sindhu picked three wickets apiece for the North Zone. 

In response, the elegant opening pair, Yash Dhull and Manan Vohra have been flawless to amass 65 runs in 13 overs for North Zone.
