The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise and its Australian-based coach Tom Moody have mutually parted ways with each other. West Indian legend, Brian Lara has been appointed as the new head coach from next season.

SRH and Moody decide against contract extension

Moody was head coach of the SRH franchise between the years 2013 and 2019. During his tenure, the ‘Orange Army’ reached the knockouts on five occasions and even lifted the title in 2016, defeating tournament favourites RCB in the final.

The former Australian cricketer returned to the franchise for a second stint in 2021, this time as a team director. The following year, he assumed the coaching role again, replacing outbound Trevor Bayliss.

However, his second coming was marred with key injuries and disastrous results, as the Kane Williamson-led side finished at number eight on the points table.

As per a report by ESPNCricinfo, Brian Lara’s name has been circulated as one of the frontrunners to take over the SRH coaching role. The former West Indies captain was already a key member of the franchise in IPL 2022. He worked under Moody and served SRH as a batting coach and a strategic advisor.

If Lara ends up bagging the desired role, it will be his first as the head coach for any franchise in the lucrative IPL tournament.
