Following the blistering knock against Hong Kong, Suryakumar Yadav thinks his role was just to escalate the tempo of the Indian team.
Batting first, India got a stable start with Rohit Sharma providing a quick start by contributing 21 off 13. However, KL Rahul took 39 balls to hit 36, which hurt India's chances in the middle to post a strong total.
It was the arrival of SKY, which changed the fortunes of the Men in Blue, and had a ripple effect on Virat Kohli's rhythm as well.
Gaining confidence from Surya's extravagant shots all around the park, Kohli produced his absolute best to steer the team at a lavish rate.
Surya stamped his authority by hitting four sixes in a single over, and ultimately remained unbeaten on 68* off 26, while Kohli hit 59* off 44 balls. The duo stitched a 92-run stand which helped India to finish on a score of 192.
In response, Hong Kong could score 152 in their designated quota of 20 overs, and lost the match by 40 runs. Rightfully, SKY was named Player of the Match for his magical knock.
In the post-match presentation, the 31-year-old reckoned that he is relishing the challenge to bat at any position, which has helped him to become flexible.
What Suryakumar Yadav had to say
"Some of them (shots) are predetermined, this format is all about what you think and how you prepare before you go out to bat. At the same time, you got to be staying in the present as well. I felt the wicket was a bit slow. My plan was clear. My role was to go in and take the tempo up and just express myself, I just loved it.
"You got to be flexible, you should be equipped to bat at any number and I have opened as well. I have batted at all number. I really enjoyed it."
