Rishabh Pant has joined teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal as one of only two Indian cricketers in the latest ICC rankings among men’s Test batters. The blistering wicketkeeper-batter leapfrogged South African captain Temba Bavuma to rise to number six on the latest ICC charts after cracking two centuries against England in the Headingley Test last week.
Pant plundered scores of 134 and 118 across both innings at Headingley. Team India bowlers, however, failed to complement his efforts as England pulled off a record chase on Day 5 to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Australian cricketer Travis Head, meanwhile, made the biggest leap to soar into the top 10 charts after cracking twin half-centuries against West Indies on a tough Bridgetown surface.
Pant Goes Past WTC 2025 Winning Captain, Joins Jaiswal
Rishabh Pant started off his 2025-27 WTC campaign with two centuries in a Test against England in Leeds. In doing so, the 27-year-old rose to number six on the ICC Test rankings for batters, occupying the position with 801 rating points. He also became the first-ever Indian wicketkeeper-batter in Test history to garner over 800 rating points at any stage of his career.
Rishabh Pant went past South Africa’s WTC 2025 winning captain Temba Bavuma, consigning the latter to number seven position.
As of now, Pant is one of only two Indian batters to feature in the top 10 ICC Test rankings, with young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal finding himself at number four.
England’s Joe Root And Harry Brook Continue To Dominate Top 10
Senior Englishman Joe Root and his fellow ‘BazBall’ advocator Harry Brook continue to remain the top two ranked ICC Test batsmen with 889 and 874 rating points respectively.
They are followed by New Zealand legend Kane Williamson at number three. Australian heavyweight Steve Smith, meanwhile, is sandwiched between the two Indian cricketers at number five. England’s Ben Duckett and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis retained their eighth and ninth positions on the ICC charts.
Travis Head Makes A Big Leap After WI Heroics
Firebrand Australian batter Travis Head turned out to be the biggest benefactor among the top 10 batters by storming into the category after cracking twin match-winning fifties against West Indies last week. The left-hander punched out 59 and 61 runs, and fitting bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for steering Australia to a huge 159-run win.
