After a long the Indian fans are all set to enjoy some intense white-ball excitement as Team India and Bangladesh are scheduled to play a limited-over series in August. However, with the official schedule yet to be announced, uncertainty looms like a dark cloud over the much-anticipated showdown.
Due to the ongoing political tension between India and Bangladesh, the series now faces uncertainty. The BCB has hinted at a possible delay, suggesting the showdown might not go ahead as originally planned.
Storm Brewing Over India-Bangladesh Limited Over Series
After a Test and T20I series in October 2024, India and Bangladesh were scheduled to face each other in a limited-over series, originally scheduled in August. But there is an uncertainty looming over the series, raising concerns among the fans.
The unrest in Bangladesh has been escalating since last year, taking a sharp turn in August 2024 when Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India. Her departure sparked a diplomatic rift between these two neighbouring nations.
Due to this, uncertainty surrounds the upcoming India-Bangladesh white-ball series featuring three T20Is and three ODIs. Considering the ongoing tension between the two nations, the series might face a delay as it was set to begin on August 17.
BCB's Media Committee Chairman Speaks Out
Even the BCCI maintained silence on the matter, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s media committee chairman Iftikhar Rahman reflected on the future of the series. Speaking to the AFP, as quoted by the Sportstar, he hinted that a delay in the much-anticipated showdown could be on the cards.
“The tour is part of the FTP (International Cricket Council’s Future Tours Programme), so cancellation is not an option. But it may be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time,” Rahman said.
As the Indian government is yet to give clearance for the tour, both boards have come on the same page to decide the series’ fate. As nothing is clear yet, fans are holding their breath to find the final outcome.
