India’s new Test captain, Shubman Gill, slammed a swashbuckling century in the first inning of the second Test against England at Edgbaston. After unlocking the triple figures, Gill let out a huge roar, reminding fans of Virat Kohli’s iconic roar at the same venue in 2018.
On Day 1 of the second Test, England won the toss and invited India to bat first. Despite losing KL Rahul early, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill had a 66-run partnership. While wickets kept falling on one end, the skipper laid anchor on the other end.
Shubman Gill Reminds Fans Of Virat Kohli With Huge Roar After Hundred
In the 80th over of the first inning, Shubman Gill, batting at 98, hit a sweep shot off Joe Root, with the ball drifting full and wide outside the leg stump.
Gill, ever alert and aggressive, placed a powerful sweep past backward square leg for a boundary. The moment the ball raced to the fence, he let out a loud roar of joy to celebrate his second century of the ongoing series.
The skipper raised his bat and helmet, screamed “come on” with pure emotion, and took a bow to the crowd.

Interestingly, Gill’s roar had shades of Virat Kohli, who expressed similar emotions in 2018.
With critics doubting his ability in English conditions after a poor 2014 tour, Kohli silenced everyone with a sensational 149-run knock in the first innings of the Edgbaston Test in 2018. He also hit a half-century in the second inning to show excellent form.
Shubman Gill now appears to be headed on the same path. Many doubted his acumen as a batter before coming into the series. In just 2 games, Gill has hit two centuries but is yet to prove himself as a leader.
That being said, at stumps on day 1, India had 310 runs on the board at the loss of 5 wickets. Gill remains unbeaten on 114, with Ravindra Jadeja by his side at 41 off 67 balls.
