Asia Cup 2022: Kapil Dev hopeful of a Virat Kohli comeback very soon

Virat Kohli again grabbed all the headlines as India fought a battle with arch-rivals Pakistan in a high-profile Asia Cup match. The batter has been under the fire for quite some time due to his lean patch. Not scoring a hundred for almost three years has only added more pressure on the superstar.

Playing against Pakistan in the marquee event, Kohli again failed in contributing much to the scoreboard. While India were chasing the score of 148 runs, the 33-year-old walked back to the pavilion after scoring only 35 runs off 34 balls.

Despite the poor performance, the right-hander has managed to impress a few veterans with his intent and passion. There is no denying that Kohli looked in the groove against Pakistan as his knock was laced with a lone maximum and three fours.

The batter needs just one knock to get back in form

Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev looked optimistic about Kohli’s comeback as he hailed the 33-year-old for his conduct against the Men in Green. Notably, the number three batter is coming to the Indian team after a much-needed break of over a month.

Kapil was quoted as saying by ANI,

“Good to see him come back. I saw a couple of shots where he really made an impact. I just want him to be more sure about that. So far, he is coming back, he looked good. He was lucky in the first over when he was dropped. I like his attitude not only today, but for the last ten years. This makes him a bigger player than anyone else.”

Kohli’s future is uncertain

Further, the World Cup-winning captain claimed that Kohli is just one knock away from retaining his title of the Run Machine back. Elaborating his opinion on the criticism the batter has been facing, Kapil added that people need to understand that neither a player can score good runs regularly nor he can bag a duck in every match.

Meanwhile, Asia Cup 2022 is like a litmus test for Kohli. The former Indian skipper need to produce some back-to-back good knocks to shut the mouth of the trollers. Also, his future in the shortest format of the game is uncertain.

It is learned that the 33-year-old’s performance in the ongoing T20 event will decide his selection in the T20 World Cup, scheduled in Australia later this year.
