Ahead of Pakistan's clash against arch-rivals India on Sunday, August 28, spinning all-rounder Shadab Khan has opened up about his ambitions to help his nation lift the coveted Asia Cup 2022 trophy. Shadab has been one of the most improved cricketers in the recent past, revealed about becoming the player of the tournament as well.

Ever since returning from injury, the leg-spinner from Mianwali has showcased his capabilities in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Islamabad United.

In 2022 alone, Shadab has scored 162 runs and eight wickets in five ODIs, including crucial knocks against the Netherlands and West Indies last month.

"Personally, I want to be the player of the Asia Cup. I know it is easier said than done, but where there is a will, there is a way. I remain committed to delivering my best possible efforts and I am confident I will be rewarded with successes and achievements. It will be great if I can translate my dreams of lifting the player of the tournament trophy, but the much bigger and ultimate objective is to win the glittering trophy for Pakistan, rest is secondary."  - Shadab told PCB media

A Crucial cog in Pakistan's success

The 23-year-old will be the glue between the top-heavy Pakistan batting line-up, which has an inexperienced lower-order. His expertise with the bat will be as crucial as his disciplined bowling in UAE conditions.

In the absence of strike-bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab will have to guide the likes of Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and Shahnawaz Dhani in the field, who have very less game time in pressure conditions.

Pakistan are placed in Group B alongside India and Qualifiers Hong Kong.
