Cricket Ireland have announced their 14-player squads for both ODIs and T20Is against the touring West Indies side. Both squads are filled with players who have a lot of experience, firepower and raw young talent waiting to explode.
Ireland Reveals Squads for West Indies White-Ball Series
This will be the Windies' first visit to Ireland since 2019 and the fans in Clontarf and Bready can expect some exciting cricket. The ODI series kicks off on May 21 with the T20Is lined up for mid-June.
Stirling Steers the Ship with Familiar Faces and Fresh Blood
As expected, Paul Stirling will lead both squads with Lorcan Tucker as vice-captain. The core remains solid with the likes of Harry Tector, Josh Little, George Dockrell and Curtis Campher all included. But all eyes will be on the three potential debutants: Cade Carmichael, Tom Mayes, and Liam McCarthy.
According to selector Andrew White, the recent Ireland Wolves tour to UAE played a big role in fast-tracking these rising stars.
“Cade Carmichael has been in the pathway for several years now… his rise over the last couple of years is a real demonstration of how consistent performances – and his ability to adapt his game to conditions – have been recognised with an international call-up.”
McCarthy And Mayes Add A New Flavour To The Pace Attack
Both seamers have made waves on the domestic and ‘A’ circuit, and now they’ve earned the big call. Mayes brings height and relentless accuracy, while McCarthy offers a different angle and tests the batters with his sharp movement and aggression.
“Both players offer something different to the squad,” White said. “McCarthy brings a slightly different dynamic to our attack and will certainly challenge the batters’ techniques.”
Adair Misses Out on ODIs But Expected Back for T20Is
One notable absence in the ODI squad is Mark Adair, who is still recovering from injury. But the good news? He is likely to be back in the mix for the T20Is in June.
“While we’re disappointed that Mark Adair is not quite there yet… we have hopes that he will be ready for the T20I series next month,” concluded White.
