Arjun Tendulkar leaves Mumbai, likely to play for Goa in domestic cricket

Mumbai Indians' pacer Arjun Tendulkar is all set to part ways with Mumbai and is likely to ply his trade for Goa in the upcoming season of Indian domestic cricket, starting September later this year.

If reports are to be believed, the son of the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has already applied for a No Objection Certificate (NoC) from Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Notably, Junior Tendulkar made his domestic cricket debut in the 2020/21 season and has only played two T20s for Mumbai. He was part of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy trophy squad for the league stage but didn't feature in a single game.

Sachin Tendulkar confirmed the development

In a recent conversation with Cricbuzz, the former India cricketer and batting great Sachin Tendulkar confirmed the development, stating Arjun is going to play for Goa to spend more time on the field and sharpen his cricketing skills.

"Getting maximum game time on the ground is important for Arjun at this juncture of his career. We believe that the shift will improve the probability of Arjun featuring in more competitive matches. He is embarking on a new phase of his cricketing career."

Meanwhile, GOA Cricket Association president Suraj Lotlikar, speaking to the PTI news agency, confirmed the news. He further added that Arjun will get to play all the pre-season games and the state selectors will take a call based on his performances in those games.

“We have been looking out for left-hand bowling talent to also add players to the middle order with multiple skills. In this context, we invited Arjun Tendulkar to join the Goa side. We will be playing pre-season trial matches (white ball) and he will be playing in those games. The selectors will then take a call based on his performance,” Suraj Lotlikar said.

The Mumbai-based franchise re-signed Arjun in the mega-auction held earlier in February for INR 30 lakh. However, the 22-year-old continued to warm the bench throughout the season.

The 2022-23 domestic season is scheduled to be played from September and if everything goes right Arjun will be seen making his debut for Goa in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
