Shannon Gabriel signed up by Yorkshire for three county games

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club has roped in Shannon Gabriel for the next three County Championship matches.

The West Indies pace bowler will be available to face Surrey, Somerset, and Hampshire later this month. He will make his Yorkshire debut against Surrey at Scarborough on Monday, July 11, before taking on Somerset at Taunton and then playing Hampshire at North Marine Road in Scarborough later this month.

The Trinidad seamer has been signed as a like-for-like replacement for Haris Rauf, who will be travelling with the Pakistan Test squad to Sri Lanka.

The right-arm Windies bowler has taken 318 wickets at 30.91 in 118 First-Class matches. For West Indies in the red-ball format, he has taken 161 wickets at an average of 31.84 in 56 Test appearances.

Gabriel will become the second West Indies international player to represent Yorkshire this season, following all-rounder Dominic Drakes's short stint as a replacement signing for Shadab Khan.

This will be Gabriel's third short stint with a county club after turning out for Worcestershire in 2016 and Gloucestershire in 2019.

"We are delighted to have signed Shannon for the next three County Championship matches and are very much looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in a Yorkshire shirt. With two of the next three games coming at Scarborough, which has been one of the quickest surfaces in the country for a number of years, his pace will be a real asset to us," said Yorkshire's Interim Managing Director of Cricket Darren Gough.

"I think it's fair to say supporters at North Marine Road will be entertained watching him and I'm sure he will play his part in bringing us some success over the next month," the 51-year-old added.

Gabriel has been working his way back to full fitness for Trinidad and Tobago in domestic cricket.
