Shreyas Iyer has long been recognized as one of India’s most promising cricketing talents, known for his solid technique and ability to anchor an innings. However, his consistent struggle with short-pitched deliveries has become a significant concern.

Despite his potential, this vulnerability has often led to his downfall, as was evident in the recent Buchi Babu Tournament on August 29.

Playing for Mumbai in the tournament, Shreyas Iyer once again found himself on the wrong side of a short delivery. In a match against TNCA XI, Iyer could manage only 22 runs before being dismissed.

TNCA XI beat Mumbai by 286 runs

His inability to counter short-pitched bowling is becoming a recurring issue, raising questions about his adaptability and readiness for international cricket, where bowlers will undoubtedly exploit this weakness.

Iyer’s struggles were further highlighted as Mumbai suffered a crushing defeat, losing by 286 runs. The team’s batting line-up, which included other prominent names like Suryakumar Yadav, crumbled under pressure.

Despite a valiant 68 from Shams Mulani, Mumbai was bowled out for a mere 223, falling short of the target by a significant margin.

Shreyas Iyer's teammate Suryakumar Yadav suffers an injury

Suryakumar Yadav recently showed interest in red-ball cricket, saying he wants to play all formats of the game. However, in the ongoing tournament, the Indian T20I skipper did not bat due to an injury concern.

Although the injury is reported to be minor, his absence left a noticeable gap in Mumbai’s batting strength.

Despite a few resilient partnerships, Mumbai’s innings lacked the momentum needed to chase down the imposing total set by TNCA XI. The Indian stars, including Iyer and Suryakumar, failed to make an impact in this crucial match.
