On Day 2 of the 2nd Test between England and Sri Lanka at Lord’s, fast bowler Gus Atkinson achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring his maiden Test century.

In a rare feat for a fast bowler, Atkinson's innings was a display of both skill and resilience, as he turned the tide for England after they had reached 358 for 7 at stumps on Day 1, with Atkinson unbeaten on 74.

In the 93rd over of England’s first innings, Atkinson reached his century with a well-timed boundary. Facing Lahiru Kumara, who over-pitched just outside off-stump, Atkinson expertly drove the ball straight past mid-off for a four.

This landmark moment was met with cheers as Atkinson removed his helmet, and his teammates applauded from the balcony, acknowledging his brilliant achievement.

Later in the play, Atkinson fell victim to Asitha Fernando's fiery delivery after scoring 118 runs off 115 balls, including 4 sixes and 14 fours

At the time of writing, England are at 421 runs for 9 in 100 overs, with Olly Stone and Shoaib Bashir at the crease.

Gus Atkinson's performance on his debut

Earlier this year, during the series against the West Indies, Atkinson made headlines by securing a place on the bowling honors board at home.

He claimed 22 wickets over six innings in the three-match Test series, including a notable seven-wickets on his debut.

His ability to excel with both bat and ball sets Atkinson apart. His bowling exploits have already established him as a force to be reckoned with, and now his batting prowess adds a new dimension to his game.
