Day 2 of the second Test match between England and Sri Lanka was highlighted by a sublime century from Gus Atkinson, who scored a quick-fire 118 in the first innings. However, the talking point was the blunder made by skipper Ollie Pope during Sri Lanka's batting.

Brain-fade moment for England and Ollie Pope

The event occurred in the second over of the Sri Lankan batting, when Pope entered as a contender for the worst review in the history of cricket.

Atkinson, the hero for England, with the bat delivered a length ball outside the off to Sri Lanka's Dimuth Karunaratne. The wobbled ball swayed away from the bat and it went straight into the hands of keeper, Jamie Smith.

Following a consultation with Joe Root, Pope decided to review it upstairs for a caught-behind, despite the fact that the keeper Smith was not interested in it.

Replays suggested that the ball was far away from the bat and the ultra-edge was not even required to make the decision.

Atkinson's name honoured at Lord's board

Atkinson, came into bat when England were struggling to get some runs. The pace bowler showed his class with the bat and played a sublime knock of 118 off just 115 deliveries to propel England to 427.

He became the fastest cricketer to get his name on both honours board at Lord's (bat and ball). This was his maiden first-class century as well, one which could potentially help England take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Atkinson also became just the 6th cricketer to slam a Test hundred at Lord's from the number eight position or below. At the moment, Sri Lanka are struggling at 83/5, still trailing England by 344 runs.
