England's Gus Atkinson Slams Sublime Century; Becomes Fastest Cricketer To Get On Both Lord's Honours Board

England pace bowler, Gus Atkinson slammed a sublime century against Sri Lanka on Day 2 of the second Test match. With his terrific hundred, he became the fastest cricketer to get on both Lord's honours board.

Atkinson breaks Botham's long-standing record

Batting at number 8, Atkinson batted with grit and determination and scored a 103-ball hundred to help England register 427 in their first innings.

England were in a spot of bother when Atkinson walked in to bat on Day 1 of the Lord's Test match. He was at his imperial best, taking on the Sri Lankan bowlers with utmost ease. The pace bowler showcased his batting prowess and was aggressive right from the word go as he reached his century with a boundary through long-off, and broke Ian Notham's record of the fastest mention on the honours board (for batters).

The former England all-rounder, Botham took 2 Tests, but six innings to achieve this feat. However, Atkinson did this in just 4 innings.

Atkinson becomes just the 6th batter to achieve a special record in Tests

Atkinson made his Test debut against West Indies at Lord's, a couple of months ago, and he made an instant impact. The pacer took 7-wickets in his very first innings, and his name was etched in the Lord's honours board (for bowlers).

In just 4 Tests, he has picked up 26 wickets, and was awarded the Player of the Series for his stellar performance against West Indies.

He also became the sixth player after Gubby Allen (ENG), Ray Illingworth (ENG), Bernard Julien (WI), Ajit Agarkar (IND) and Broad to score a Test hundred at Lord's from number eight or below.
