Dynamic Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has certainly caught the attention of the Australian cricketing fraternity. Earlier this year, Jaiswal clattered the visiting English attack with more than 700 runs in a five-match Test series to further solidify his stronghold as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner.

Currently the second highest run-maker of the WTC 2023-25 cycle, the youngster will surely start out as one of the players to watch out for when Team India tours Australia later this year for a blockbuster Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

Mere days after cricketer-turned-commentator Matthew Hayden hyped up a potential Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Nathan Lyon clash ‘Down Under’, former Australian head coach John Buchanan has cautioned the Indian youngster about the testing challenges that await him.

Buchanan says Jaiswal’s adaptability key to India’s success

Former Australian head coach John Buchanan recently praised Yashasvi Jaiswal by describing him an “exciting young player”. However, he also cautioned the Indian opener for his lack of experience of playing on bouncy Australian surfaces.

Buchanan claimed that Jaiswal’s ability of overcoming the Australian bouncy pitches might well hold key to India’s success this time around. He said:

“There is a lot of talk about that, is not there? He is an exciting young player, and certainly one to watch, but he would be to me one of those examples. He (Jaiswal) has not played in Australia, or at least he has not played in Perth in a Test match on a wicket that bounces. So, his ability to adjust his game to those conditions in some sense might be a barometer as to how India will go through the series.”

Team India is slated to tour Australia in November this year for a five-match Test series. The first Test will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth between November 22 and November 26 and the series also constitutes a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle.

Team India will head into the series as the current ‘Border-Gavaskar Trophy’ holders, considering they won their previous four-match tussle back in 2023 by a 2-1 margin.
