Powerful hitter from West Indies, Sherfane Rutherford created a stellar record when he became the first player to score a century in the Abu Dhabi T10 League's history. Representing Northern Warriors, his scintillating knock of 103* runs against UP Nawabs became a glorious mark in the history of the tournament.
On Day 2 of the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2024 season, UP Nawabs were up against the Northern Warriors at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The Warriors batted first, and with 3 wickets down at 40 just runs, West Indies power hitter Sherfane Rutherford came to the rescue to deliver a knock of the ages.
Rutherford rakes up T10 League with remarkable knock!
Coming to bat at no.4, Sherfane Rutherford pushed 5th gear from ball one to go all guns blazing. He took on his fellow West Indies teammate Odean Smith to hammer him for 5 sixes in the 6th over. In no time, Rutherford raced to his half-century only to convert it into a big hundred with a boundary on the final ball of the first innings.
His magnificent 103* off 40 balls consisted of 10 humongous sixes and 7 boundaries with a spectacular strike rate of 257.50. This is the first hundred ever registered in the history of the Abu Dhabi T10 League, and his fans and opponents are simply in awe of his talent.
Rutherford's century did not only give Northern Warriors a commanding total of 142/4 but also set benchmarks for individual performances in the fast-paced T10 format.
But unfortunately, the Northern Warriors could not capitalise on Sherfane Rutherford's record-breaking innings. Bowlers failed to defend the 142-run target as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Andre Fletcher unleashed carnage.
Gurbaz scored 44 off 23 balls, whereas Fletcher hammered 75 off 27 balls with 7 sixes and 4 boundaries to power UP Nawabs to a convincing 9-wicket victory, that too with 5 balls to spare.
Regardless, Sherfane Rutherform will be remembered for his record innings that will redefine will future of Abu Dhabi T10 League.
