One of the biggest surprises of the IPL 2025 mega auction was the highest overseas run-scorer of the league, David Warner going unsold during the event. Despite the experience and the impact the legendary Ashwin had in the tournament over the years he could not peak the interest of any of the franchises.
Here is a look at probable reasons why David Warner went sold during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
1. Age of David Warner
David Warner is currently aged 38 and during the IPL 2024 it was evident that he is well past his prime. Once known for his explosive batting, the southpaw scored 168 runs at an average of 21.00 and a striker rate of 134.40. Given the current dynamics of the T20, his performance in the last season seemed ordinary. The numbers of Warner in the last edition of the tournament might be a reason the franchises did not bid for him.
2. Out Of Professional Cricket
The Australian legend has already retired from international cricket. Hence, he will not be playing cricket all round the year. As a result the franchises might have felt that player's efficiency might not be up to the mark as he might be out of practice.
3. Unable To Live Up To The Reputation
During the last edition of the tournament, David Warner had is worst IPL season. If we look at the consistency and the efficiency of the player, the southpaw as no where close to the reputation he had. The fact that he is no longer able to provide the starts that he was known for made a major contribution in him remaining unsold.
