As Rohit Sharma, the ex-Mumbai Indians captain, took the field for the first time in the season against Gujarat Titans on Sunday evening at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Ahmedabad crowd seemed to love his presence to the fullest as he received a fantastic reception. 

In a viral video, where Sharma is seen to be taking the field for some warm-up ahead of the GT vs MI clash, the crowd cheered him with enthusiasm. 

Rohit, who was controversially replaced by Hardik Pandya as the captain of MI after the latter's big-money move back to the Mumbai side, is playing an IPL season for the first time since 2013 where he won't be the one leading them at the toss. 

Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai man who has already amassed an impressive 6211 runs in 243 appearances in the Indian Premier League, was poised to make a significant impact in the match against GT. 

His performance was not only crucial for the Mumbai Indians but also a stepping stone towards the T20 World Cup, as he aimed to enter the tournament in the best possible shape and form. 

In a match brimming with anticipation, the Mumbai Indians won the toss and made a strategic decision to bowl first. 

This set the stage for an exhilarating encounter, with the newly appointed GT captain, Shubman Gill, and Sai Sudarshan, making promising starts. However, their efforts fell short of converting into fifties, adding to the drama of the match. 

The Mumbai Indians showcased their bowling prowess, restricting GT to 168/6. This impressive feat was primarily thanks to a fantastic spell from Bumrah, who picked 3/14 off his four overs. 

The newly added player, Gerald Coetzee, also had a commendable debut, dismissing Azmatullah Omarzai and Rahul Tewatia while conceding just 27 runs in his four overs.
