Quinton de Kock's explosive batting display led the Barbados Royals to a dominant nine-wicket victory over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the fourth match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium, Antigua.

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons Winless In The Tournament

Earlier, Barbados Royals won the toss and invited Antigua and Barbuda Falcons to bat first. The Falcons struggled early on and lost two wickets during the powerplay and two more shortly after, which left them in a precarious position at 47-4.

Despite the early setbacks, 17-year-old Jewel Andrew stood out with a fighting knock of 48 off 35 balls, which included three fours and two sixes. His efforts helped the Falcons post a total of 145-9 as they sought their first win of the tournament.

In response, the Royals came out all guns blazing. De Kock, alongside Rahkeem Cornwall, launched an emphatic attack in the powerplay, that propelled the Royals to 76 without loss in the first six overs.

Even after Cornwall was dismissed, De Kock continued to dominate and showcased a mix of power and finesse. He remained unbeaten on 87 off just 45 balls and sealed the victory in style with a boundary and a six off Mohammad Amir.

One particular moment of the match that gained appreciation was Shamar Springer's final over of the powerplay. Quinton de Kock pretty much took the game from the opposition and displayed powerful hitting as he smashed 24 runs in that one particular over.

Jason Holder was pivotal with the ball and delivered an impressive spell at the death, where he bowled 12 dot balls and claimed two wickets for 21 runs. Spinners Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage further stifled the Falcons and contributed to their restricted total.

De Kock's commanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award, as the Royals marked their first match of the 2024 CPL season with a resounding win.
