Sri Lanka's young bowling all-rounder, Dunith Wellalage, exhibited his brilliance with the ball, as he claimed the prized wicket of Sam Billings in the ongoing CPL 2024 encounter between Antigua & Barbuda Falcons and Barbados Royals. Wellalage, who also took a sharp catch to dismiss Antigua's in-form batter, Fakhar Zaman, outfoxed Billings to push the home team down on the mat.

The incident occurred during the seventh over of Antigua's innings when Billings was trying to steady the ship alongside Jewel Andrew following Fakhar's departure. However, the experienced English batter was undone by Wellalage, who deceived him with a well-disguised delivery.

Wellalage, playing his debut CPL match, was brought into the attack by Barbados' captain Rovman Powell after the end of the powerplay. The decision proved to be a masterstroke by the Windies skipper, as the left-arm spinner instantly made an impact.

From around the wicket, Wellalage bowled a full-length delivery, drawing ex-CSK star Billings into a false shot. As the English batter charged down the track, the ball turned away from him, beating him all ends up.

Barbados Royals' wicket-keeper, Quinton de Kock, collected the ball cleanly and dislodged the bails, sending the Englishman back to the hut. Since making his international debut, Wellalage has been an incredible asset for Sri Lanka.

He recently played an instrumental role in the Lankan Lions' recent ODI series victory over India, bamboozling the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Jewel Andrew brings Antigua's innings back on track

After the early jitters, Antigua & Barbuda Falcons recovered well in the game, thanks to a counter-attacking knock from keeper-batter Jewel Andrew. As of writing, the hosts were 115 for five, with Andrew batting alongside skipper Chris Green.
